The RPM Monster Camber Gauge makes it easy to measure both camber and toe angles on vehicles with large tires.
For off-road use, a good starting point is approximately -3° of camber at all four corners. For on-road driving, reduce rear wheel camber to about -1° to increase the tire’s contact patch on high-traction surfaces. Front wheel camber should remain at approximately -2° to -3° to help compensate for suspension dive during cornering.
The RPM Monster Camber Gauge can also be used to measure toe angles. We do not recommend using the RPM Toe-In Gauge on vehicles with large-diameter tires because it cannot reach the wheel’s centerline, which may result in inaccurate readings.
Checking Front Toe
Begin by turning on your transmitter and receiver, allowing the steering servo to center itself. Leave both powered on throughout the adjustment process.
Position a straight 2″ × 4″ block of wood or another square, straight-edged object against the front tires, making sure only the tires contact the wood, not the bumper, skid plate or any other part of the vehicle.
Place the Monster Camber Gauge horizontally across the face of one front tire with the base of the gauge resting against the wood. The reading shown is the toe angle for that wheel. Measure both front wheels and add the two readings together to determine total front toe.
After making your adjustments, drive the vehicle and use your transmitter’s steering trim to fine-tune straight-line tracking.
Checking Rear Toe
Rear wheel toe is measured using the same procedure. However, because the rear wheels cannot be referenced directly to the chassis using this method, the best way to ensure accurate rear toe is to make certain both rear toe links are exactly the same length. Any toe adjustments should always be made equally on both sides.
Understanding the Readings
- Front wheels: A negative reading indicates toe-out, while a positive reading indicates toe-in.
- Rear wheels: A negative reading indicates toe-in.
Recommended Starting Settings
- Off-road camber: Approximately -3° front and rear.
- On-road front camber: Approximately -2° to -3°.
- On-road rear camber: Approximately -1°.
- Front toe: Approximately ½° toe-in per side (1° total).
- Rear toe: Approximately 2° toe-in per side.
